Emptytheweb.com spoort je aan het web te ‘emptiën’, voordat het jou leegtrekt. Met onliners al ‘Google knows more about you than some of your closest friends do’, ‘hands were made for shaking, not typing’ en ‘leave tweeting to the birds’, lijkt het vooral één grote (puik ontworpen) grap te zijn, maar wie zal het zeggen?

“When Jonathan Rosenberg, Senior VP of Product Management at Google, walked the corridors of their London office, he was intrigued by a Google logo he saw on the wall. It was a beautiful 20 feet wide photo mosaic of UK which also included within it a giant representation of the company’s logo. It was designed by Googler Clay Bavor who used 884 individually printed 4×6 photographs of people, places, and things around the U.K. (all of which were taken by Googlers). (…) Jonathan was so impressed with the project that he decided to organize a ‘Googley Art Wall’ contest within the company. In all 23 teams from 12 offices across eight countries submitted videos and photographs of their work.” Het resultaat? Na de klik!

Google heeft vorige week een eigen bibliotheek met vrij te gebruiken lettertypen geopend. Het gaat om echte webfonts, die dus geen problemen opleveren voor zoekmachines en screenreaders. Implementatie is een eitje en vrijwel alle browsers worden ondersteund, zelfs IE6. Op dit moment zijn er 18 lettertypes beschikbaar, maar het is de bedoeling dat deze in de loop van de tijd aangevuld gaan worden naar een boel veel. Ik ga spelen.

Ik verbaas collega’s en vrienden nog wel eens met mijn prehistorische tradities. Ik heb een papieren agenda en verstuur mijn kerstkaartjes nog per post. Hopeloos ouderwets en vooral vreemd voor een social media figuur als ik.

Deze houding is bovendien onhoudbaar, want ik wil dit jaar ook mijn volgers op Twitter verblijden met een kerstboodschap. Hoe? Wel, via SendSocial.com dan maar.
Ik lees het volgende over deze dienst op thenextweb.com: “SendSocial allows you to send parcels to your friends on Twitter, without ever knowing their address.
